Across the Shigao courtyard is "Plow Hall", which displays varieties of the old rice farm tools of the southern Yangtze River and apparatus of grain processing, forming a distinctive water town style of the "Farm Tools Museum".
The Wu region, located in the Yangtze River Delta along the southeast coast, is one of the earliest areas to use farm tools in China, and a famous land of abundance. The agriculture of this region mainly depends on the rice cultivation. In Suzhou Caoxie Mountain and other places, the researchers have found that Majiabang-Songze-Liangzhu cultural sites already existed 50,000 years ago, and have excavated a large number of knives with wooden handle, stone sickles. By the late Liangzhu culture, with the invention of smelting technology, a series of bronze tools from reclamation, plowing, cultivating, management, to harvesting, etc. were produced. Therefore, the farm implements reform opened a new page and greatly promoted the development of productivity and social progress. After the Six Dynasties, the farm implements in the Wu region also showed a significant progress, i.e. sustainable development from extensive mode to fine mode, and creating the earliest monograph of farm tools in China, "Plows Technique". A history of farm tools is also a history of agricultural development and social development.
